Best Time to Cruise to Bermuda from Boston
The Best Time to Cruise to Bermuda from Boston
If you want warm water, June through the third week of August. If you want the best value and you do not need to swim, late October.
The longer answer is that Bermuda's weather and Boston's sailing schedule do not line up the way most people assume, and the gap between them catches a lot of families out.

Air and water temperatures below are averages published by the Bermuda Tourism Authority. They are not a forecast, and any individual week can run warmer or cooler.
| Month | Average air | Average water | Boston sailings in 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|
| April | 72°F | 68°F | 2 |
| May | 76°F | 72°F | 5 |
| June | 81°F | 78°F | 4 |
| July | 85°F | 82°F | 4, all before August 22 |
| August | 85°F | 84°F | 4, all before August 22 |
| September | 85°F | 83°F | None |
| October | 80°F | 78°F | 2, both at the end of the month |
The September problem
September is Bermuda's best month. The air averages 85°F, the water is still around 83°F, and the island is quieter than it is in July.
You cannot get there from Boston on a cruise in 2027.
Norwegian Breakaway switches to Canada and New England itineraries from August 29 through October 17. So the Boston Bermuda season effectively runs April to the third week of August, then picks up again for two sailings at the very end of October.
If someone tells you September is the best time to cruise to Bermuda, they are right about Bermuda and they are not looking at the Boston schedule.
Month by month
April: the school vacation option, not the swimming one
Average water is 68°F. That is swimmable for some people and genuinely cold for most.
April works if the point of the trip is the ship, the overnight in port, and getting out of New England during April vacation week without flying. It does not work if your family's whole idea of Bermuda is a beach day.
I am hosting the April 18, 2027 sailing, so I am biased about the date, but I would rather tell you the water is 68°F now than have you find out from the end of a dock.
May: the shoulder month
Water climbs to around 72°F. Air is about 76°F.
This is the month for someone who wants the island without the July crowds and is happy to be on a beach rather than in the water for long. Five sailings in May 2027 gives you the most dates to choose from of any month.
June: the sweet spot
Water reaches about 78°F and the air about 81°F. This is the first month where the water is genuinely warm for most people.
Hurricane season opens June 1, but activity that early in the season is historically low. NOAA puts the statistical peak at September 10 and most activity between mid-August and mid-October.
July and August: warmest water, highest demand
July water averages 82°F, August peaks at 84°F. These are the warmest weeks you can get from Boston.
They are also school holidays, which means more families aboard and fares at their highest. The last Bermuda sailing before the Canada season is August 22.
One thing to weigh: the NOAA activity window starts ramping from mid-August. It does not mean a storm, it means a slightly higher chance your itinerary shifts.
Late October: the value play
Two sailings, October 24 and October 31. Water still averages around 78°F and air around 80°F, which is warmer than most people expect for late fall.
By late October you are past the heaviest part of the NOAA activity window. Demand is lower than midsummer.
One honest note about hurricane season
The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. NOAA gives September 10 as the statistical peak, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October.
In practice this means a Bermuda sailing in that window can have its itinerary changed. Ships move around weather, and Bermuda is a single island with no alternative port nearby, so a change usually means more sea days rather than a different island.
If one specific thing is the entire reason for your trip, and you cannot be flexible about it, book outside that window. If you can stay a little flexible, the later sailings are often the better value.
So which one is right for you
April
You want out of New England during school vacation week, and the ship and the overnight are the draw. Not for swimmers.
May
You want the island quiet and you do not mind cooler water. Most dates to pick from.
June
You want warm water without peak-summer pricing or peak-season hurricane risk.
July and August
You want the warmest water and your dates are set by school holidays.
Late October
You want value, you are comfortable with some flexibility, and 78°F water is warm enough.
