Virgin Voyages has a very specific personality. That is one of the reasons people who love it tend to really love it, and why I would never recommend it automatically just because it is adults-only.
I am a Gold Tier Virgin Voyages First Mate, and I have sailed Virgin myself. When I help someone choose a Virgin sailing, I am looking at the experience as a whole: the ship, itinerary, cabin, dining style, entertainment, nightlife and what that particular traveler actually wants from a vacation.
What Makes Virgin Different
This is not a traditional cruise with the labels changed.
Virgin made some fundamental choices about how the onboard experience works. Those differences are what make it such a strong fit for some travelers.
Adults only
Virgin Voyages is for guests 18 and older. There are no kids clubs, family programming or children's spaces onboard.
Restaurants, not a main dining room
Dining is spread across distinct restaurants and casual venues rather than one traditional main dining room with assigned seating.
A more inclusive fare
Virgin includes several things that are often extra on other cruise lines. I still walk clients through what is included and what they may want to budget for separately.
No formal night
You can dress up because you want to, not because the ship has declared a formal evening. The overall feel is more individual and less traditional.
Entertainment with an edge
The shows, parties and nightlife can be energetic, unconventional and adult. Scarlet Night is a good example of how Virgin creates an experience rather than a standard cruise-line event.
A ship built for hanging out
Spaces like The Dock, outdoor lounges and smaller social areas make the ship feel less centered on one giant atrium or promenade.

Who I would point toward Virgin, and who I would steer elsewhere.
There is no prize for choosing the trendiest cruise line. There is value in choosing the one that matches how you actually like to travel.
